Run log updated: 1/19/2005. Scroll down to check it out. You really don't see too many athlete's training logs out on the internet. I really don't know the reason for this. Is it that athletes do not want to share what gets them to the top (or bottom) or their game. What ever the reason, I keep a good training log in an Excel spreadsheet and keep it up to date. See link below. (The one here on my website may not be up to date just because sometimes I don't have time to update it). I am not afraid to share my training log for all to see in hopes that it may provide some benefit to some runner or triathlete. I know of one case where it has already inspired one person to pursue their ambition to try a certain triathlon. My training log is true. I don't make up miles to make it look impressive. That's why if you do decide to look at it, you may be surprised on how many days are missing data. It's because I didn't train. It's part of life, sometimes you just don't feel like doing anything. Especially after a long day at work. I am a weekend warrior athlete. I would be much better if I did this for a living - but I don't!
I have noticed that my swimming ability has improved dramatically since joining the YMCA, which has an indoor pool. I still need much improvement and would strongly benefit from swim lessons from a swim coach. For right now, I am very happy just knowing that I can continue swim continuously for much longer periods of time that the same time last year. I try to study technique as much as possible on websites and read lots of articles on swimming. This has paid off. But I fear that with all the swimming that I am doing without a swim coach, I may be enforcing a bad technique into my core swimming stroke ability. My biking is turning out to be my best sport in the triathlon. I have become a strong biker as I focus on speed when out biking. I have done a couple 40 mile bikes this season and have noticed that these have really helped me in developing my biking muscles and biking abilities. I routinely rank in the top on the bike leg portion of the triathlons that I compete in. Some things that I need to consider for this season in my training is the fact that I will be running the NEW York Marathon on November 7. This will require me to be doing some longer runs in the hotter Texas months of September and October. It's always hot in Texas. I would also like to step up to the 50 miler at Sunmart this year. Based on my running health, Sunmart is still questionable. Next year, I would like to try my hand at a Half Ironman or possibly a Full Ironman. I will definitely do an Ironman distance triathlon in the next couple of years. My training is completely based on how much time I have and somewhat on how I feel when I get home from work. My work schedule totally dictates how many miles I will have for the week. Balancing work, training and family commitments is difficult. Once you fine tune it and get the perfect mix of each, everyone benefits including your performance. But sometimes shit happens and throws the whole thing out of whack and your back to finding the happy medium again. Click on the picture link below to view my training log and come back and visit later to see the updated version. It's an excel spreadsheet so you can save it and scan it with your anti-virus program if you like or you can trust me and open it. Each cell block has comments which I enter each time I do a run/train.
