I was definitely better prepared for this
years' Sunmart. I had visions of running a sub 4 hour 50K, but I still had
serious doubts that I would be able to do this. The weather was much
better than the previous years. Even though it had rained the night before,
the course conditions were ...

Houston Marathon Warmup Series 20K and 25K (Oct-Nov 2003)
I was able to improve on my times for
both of these races this year. I managed to average a 6:38 pace
for the 20K and a 6:40 pace for the 25K. I was satisfied with my times. I did slow down
quite a bit during the last part of the 25K and even entertained thoughts of
stopping for a walk break. The three loop course just seems so
discouraging and makes it feel longer than what it really is. In the end I just
kept up with my running but pushed really hard to maintain. Surprisingly, the
next day I was not sore at all from the 25Krun as I was from the 20K run. There
may be a lesson to be learned from this. Maybe more tempo runs that are a little
longer.

Tornados Cross Country Relay - Sept 2004
Our Fall series Tornados Cross Country
Relay is coming up. The race which is a 4 x 2 mile relay is held along bucks
bayou. Race start is at the corner of Memorial Drive and Sheppard, accross from
St Thomas High School. This year the race promises to be bigger and better. Last
years race was a great success and fun was had by all. Several running clubs
were well represented. The post race beverages were excellent. St. Arnold's
Brewery is one of the race sponsors and always pitches in with a keg of our
favorite carbo-loading beverage. Race course conditions and weather were not the
best but who cares when you are hanging out with some or the best people in
Houston. See you there.
